National Resource Center on Native American Aging

Cycle III Materials

We have collected successful ideas of those who have completed the needs assessment in the past. If you have had success, please send us an e-mail and let us know so that we can share your ideas with others.

Surveying Ideas (Face-to-face visits are the best):

  • During a transport
  • At a meal-on-wheels visit
  • Have other young/able-bodies native elders make the visit
  • Youth in the sr. high often need to do some community outreach, so having them pair up to do this
  • Combining it with a home health visit
  • Tribal employees getting a paid day to conduct interviews in the community

Ideas for what you can give the elders to thank them for taking the time:

  • Your time and conversation
  • Wild rice
  • Coupons for the casino
  • A chance to bring other helpful items (one tribe connected their visits with safety visits) to fix/install smoke alarms
  • A chance to share food

For more information about the needs assessment, please contact Twyla Baker-Demaray by calling (800) 896-7628 or (701) 777-3265.
