The Nursing Needs study was mandated by the North Dakota Century Code Nurse Practices Act 43-12.1-08.2 in which the North Dakota Board of Nursing was directed to address issues of supply and demand for nurses including issues of recruitment, retention and utilization of nurses. The North Dakota Board of Nursing then contracted with the Center for Rural Health at the School of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of North Dakota to conduct the Nursing Needs study. The study began in 2002 and will continue for 10 years.
Goals
The study was designed and implemented with three primary goals: 1)
provide a more accurate picture of the APN, RN and LPN workforce in both rural and urban areas of North Dakota, 2) compare these data with existing national data, and 3) inform policy. Below are links to descriptions of each part of the study.
