A native North Dakotan, Nissen grew up in a rural community where her father was a farmer and her mother worked in pediatrics at Altru Health System in Grand Forks. She has her Bachelor of Business and Public Administration degree in information systems from the UND College of Business. She has been actively involved in showing horses since 1988 and keeps busy in the winter traveling to her little sister’s high school basketball games. Established in 1980, the Center for Rural Health is one of the nation's most experienced rural health organizations. It has developed a full complement of programs to assist researchers, educators, policymakers, health care providers and, most importantly, rural residents to address changing rural environments by identifying and researching rural health issues, analyzing health policy, strengthening local capabilities, developing community-based alternatives, and advocating for rural concerns.

  • HIT 101: Connecting North Dakota for a Healthier Future
Presented by Nissen, K. on Dec 13, 2008 at the state legislators, Bismarck, ND.
Kylie Nissen recently traveled to Bismarck to assist the ND Health Information Technology (HIT) Steerng Committee with a demonstration to legislators entitled "HIT 101: Connecting North Dakota for a Healthier Future." This meeting was held at the ND State Capitol in Bismarck on December 13th, 2009 to specifically give legilators an opportunity to gain information and ask questions on HIT, learn about the ND healthcare facilities' adoption of HIT, and view brief demonstrations on technology used in healthcare. HIT 101 is geared toward educating legislators on HIT so that they can make an informed decision when voting on a bill created by the HIT Steering Committee and sponsored by Senators Judy Lee and Larry Robinson that proposes a HIT grant progam and the establishment of an Office of Health Information Technology within the Department of Health.
