Mary Amundson, MA

Mary Amundson is an assistant professor for the Center for Rural Health (CRH) at the University of North Dakota (UND) School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS). In this position, Amundson directs the Area Health Education Center (AHEC) and other recruitment programs. She has been with the SMHS since 1989.

Amundson serves on the National Health Service Corps Advisory Council, the UND SHMHS Admissions Committee, and the Program Director’s Constituency Group for the National AHEC program. Amundson was elected to the Board of Directors for the Essential Institute of Rural Health and is a past board member for the National Rural Recruitment and Retention Network. She has provided testimony to the U.S. Congressional Subcommittee on Immigration, Citizenship, Refugees, Border Security, and International Law, and has served on the National Advisory Committee on Interdisciplinary Community-Based Linkages.

Amundson has a master’s degree from UND, and a bachelor’s degree from North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND.

Established in 1980, the Center for Rural Health is one of the nation's most experienced rural health organizations. It has developed a full complement of programs to assist researchers, educators, policymakers, health care providers and, most importantly, rural residents to address changing rural environments by identifying and researching rural health issues, analyzing health policy, strengthening local capabilities, developing community-based alternatives, and advocating for rural concerns.
