Pat Conway, PhD

Pat Conway, Ph.D., LCSW has been professor at the Center for Rural Health at the University of North Dakota (UND) School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Grand Forks since June 2006.

She conducts program evaluation with North Dakota Council on Abused Women’s Services (NDCAWS) and the North Dakota Department of Health’s Empowerment Evaluation, Idea Network for Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE), Oral Health, the Domestic Violence Intervention Network (DVIN), SEARCH, the Family Support Rural Health Network, North Dakota Health Disabilities, Youth Suicide Prevention, and Medical Home. Conway is the editor of the Journal of Family Social Work.

Conway has worked as a social worker in the fields of child welfare, family violence, mental health, AIDS, health, gerontology, loss and grief, and disabilities. She has been a social work educator since the mid 1980’s, and has conducted training and program evaluations for private non profit and public agencies.

Conway has a BS in Social Work and a Master of Social Work from the University of Oklahoma and a Ph.D. in social work from the University of Texas at Austin.

Established in 1980, the Center for Rural Health is one of the nation's most experienced rural health organizations. It has developed a full complement of programs to assist researchers, educators, policymakers, health care providers and, most importantly, rural residents to address changing rural environments by identifying and researching rural health issues, analyzing health policy, strengthening local capabilities, developing community-based alternatives, and advocating for rural concerns.

Projects

  • Area Health Education Center Program -- The purpose of the AHEC is to improve the distribution, diversity, supply and quality of health care personnel in the health care services delivery system.
  • Empowerment Evaluation Project -- To assist with capacity building of evaluation efforts of primary prevention of intimate partner and sexual violence at the local and state level.
  • Evaluation and Analysis of Disability Health Project -- CRH will participate in development of a statewide data collection, analysis and reporting system regarding health and wellness conditions of North Dakota citizens with disabilities; dissemination of information; and evaluation of the project.
  • Evaluation of IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence EVALUATION CORE -- Measures the outcomes of students participating in this biomedical science program designed to increase the numbers of biomedical scientists.
  • Evaluation of Suicide Prevention -- Evaluation of the North Dakota Garrett Lee Smith Youth Suicide Prevention Program.
  • SEARCH -- The SEARCH (Student/Resident Experiences And Rotations in Community Health) program provides health professions students and residents with opportunities to work on interdisciplinary health care teams.
