This topic page provides a brief overview of the Center for Rural Health’s activities relating to Community Development. This page contains a list of projects, key staff, and information pulled from the publications, presentations, events, news, and maps section of the CRH web site.

Projects

  • Blue Cross/Blue Shield Rural Health Grant Program -- Supports individual organizations or organization/community coalitions working collaboratively through innovative programming to strengthen North Dakota’s rural health system through the use of health information technology (HIT).
  • Center of Excellence Women's Health Region VIII Demonstration Project -- Focuses on the needs of women of all ages, with particular emphasis toward women in rural areas as well as the needs of diverse populations, especially Native American women.
  • Empowerment Evaluation Project -- To assist with capacity building of evaluation efforts of primary prevention of intimate partner and sexual violence at the local and state level.
  • Flex Program -- Assist small rural hospitals to maintain access to health services for rural residents.
  • Healthcare Needs of North Dakota American Indian Veterans -- The purpose of this project was to conduct a statewide assessment of health status, healthcare access, and health risk of AI veterans residing on North Dakota’s four reservations and one Indian service area
  • National Resource Center on Native American Aging -- Improving the quality of life for Native elders through research, training and technical assistance.
  • Primary Care Office -- The North Dakota Primary Care Office (PCO) program is a subcontract with the North Dakota State Health Department for recruitment and retention assistance and shortage area designation activities.
  • Rural People, Rural Policy -- A five year national program that builds and strengthens multi-state and multi-organizational networks of local organizations to develop policy options to help rural communities and small towns.
  • SEARCH -- The SEARCH (Student/Resident Experiences And Rotations in Community Health) program provides health professions students and residents with opportunities to work on interdisciplinary health care teams.
  • SHIP -- Provides funding to small rural hospitals to help them pay for costs related to the implementation of PPS, comply with provisions of HIPAA, and reduce medical errors and support quality improvement.
  • State Office of Rural Health -- A federal-state partnership to help rural communities build their health care services through public and private partnerships and initiatives in rural health development.
  • Vision, Opportunity, and Inspiration through Civic Engagement -- Works to develop and build rural community capacity based on a regional approach.
