Launches Rural Suicide Prevention Toolkit
The Suicide Prevention Toolkit, now available from the Rural Health Information Hub (RHIhub), provides
program examples and resources for developing suicide prevention programs in rural communities. It features
the FirstLink Suicide Support Services program, based in Fargo, North Dakota.

Jacque Gray provided her cultural expertise in co-authoring an article for Transcultural Psychiatry
on “Suicidal Behaviors Among American Indian/Alaska Native Firefighters.”
Co-authors Report on Training, Technical Assistance Needs of Mental Health Pros
Shawnda Schroeder co-authored “Training and Technical Assistance Needs: Findings from a Survey of
Professionals Who Serve Individuals with Mental Illness in Region 8.” Region 8 includes North Dakota, South
Dakota, Colorado, Montana, Utah, and Wyoming.
of Healthy People 2020 Benchmarks Webinar Available
The recording of the Rural Health Research Gateway’s webinar “Have Healthy People 2020 Benchmarks for
Leading Causes of Death Been Met in Rural and Urban Areas?” is available. During the webinar, researchers
from the Southwest Rural Health Research Center reported findings from their analysis of death rates for
seven major causes of death.
