Projects
- Health Workforce Summit -- Planning Together to Meet North Dakota’s Future Health Care Needs was held on December 5, 2006, in Bismarck, ND.
- Non-Physician Clinician Workforce Study -- The NPC (Non-Physician Clinician) project will provide demographic information on the practicing physician assistants, certified nurse midwives, and nurse practitioners in North Dakota to assist in future workforce projections for these disciplines.
- North Dakota Nursing Needs Study -- The North Dakota Nursing Needs Study is a comprehensive, ten-year project that tracks supply and demand of nursing in North Dakota.
- Nurse Faculty Intern Study -- The Nurse Faculty Intern study is examining the effectiveness of a role development model for the development of nurse faculty.
- Nurse Faculty Project -- This Dakota Medical Foundation funded project will examine recruitment and retention strategies for nurse faculty.
- Nursing Workforce Impact -- Examines the impact of nurse staffing and nurse work environment on hospital performance improvement in the CMS/Premier Inc. Hospital Quality Incentive Demonstration (HQID) project.
- Primary Care Office -- The North Dakota Primary Care Office (PCO) program is a subcontract with the North Dakota State Health Department for the recruitment, retention, and shortage area designation activities of this program.
- SEARCH -- The SEARCH (Student/Resident Experiences And Rotations in Community Health) program provides health professions students and residents with opportunities to work on interdisciplinary health care teams.
- State Office of Rural Health -- A federal-state partnership to help rural communities build their health care services through public and private partnerships and initiatives in rural health development.

Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs) and Medically Underserved Areas/Populations (MUA/Ps) are shortage designations used to identify areas of greatest health needs for which resources can be targeted, such as placement of National Health Service Corps (NHSC) scholars and loan repayors and Community and Migrant Health Center (CHCs, MHC) programs. HPSAs and MUA/Ps designated shortage areas are also the vehicle by which Rural Health Clinics obtain their certification. Additionally, over 40 federal programs have attached HPSA and/or MUA/P designation as criteria to access those programs and funds, including the Medicare incentive
program for physicians.

This study, funded in 2005 by the North Dakota Board of Nursing, examined the procedures, staffing patterns, delegation process, administrative perceptions of the safety of medication assistants in a survey of health care facilities in North Dakota.
