Registration Opens for Certified Brain Injury Specialist Training

Jul 1, 2025

A brain injury can happen to anyone, at any time. Often healthcare professionals will treat patients who have experienced a brain injury. Becoming a Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS) is an intense training, but well worth the effort. The CBIS certification delves into the essential aspects of brain injury treatment needed to effectively care for patients.

Upcoming Training

CBIS certification is developed and administered through the Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA). The next CBIS training will be:

North Dakota Brain Injury Network September 16 & 17
8:30 am – 4:30 pm Central
Via Zoom

The cost of the training is free, but the fee for the exam to become certified depends on the number of attendees. Participants will have access to the North Dakota Brain Injury Network's study portal.

CBIS trainers include Sarah Ring, Rebecca Quinn, Nan Kennelly, Nickie Livedalen, and Carly Endres.

Requirements

  • Applicants must have 500 hours of currently verifiable direct contact experience with an individual or individuals with brain injury.
Note: BIAA does offer a provisional certification if you have not met these hours yet.
  • Experience can be paid employment and/or academic internship. Volunteer work and self-recovery does not qualify.
  • The qualifying experience must have included formal supervision or have been conducted while the applicant operated under a professional license. If the applicant is operating under a professional license, then he/she must be in good standing.
  • Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
