New Funding Opportunities Available

May 15, 2026

The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) has announced new funding opportunities to assist rural communities. The Rural Communities Opioid Response Program (RCORP) is the only federal program dedicated to addressing opioid and substance use disorders in rural communities. Two funding opportunities fall under RCORP.

  • RCORP-Planning will help rural communities build the capacity to develop and sustain substance use disorder services by lowering barriers to federal funding and preparing funded organizations to create larger, more complex networks. HRSA has $4 million for up to 40 awards, and recipients can receive up to $100,000.
  • RCORP-Impact will help rural communities expand access to evidence-based prevention, treatment, and recovery services through the building of a larger, more responsive workforce to meet behavioral health needs. An integrated and coordinated partnership approach across health and social services is required, leading to sustained long-term recovery and reduction in morbidity and mortality. HRSA has $60 million for up to 80 awards, and recipients can receive up to $750,000.
  • The RRPD Program improves and expands rural healthcare access by developing new, accredited, sustainable rural residency programs. It provides start-up funding to create new rural residency programs in qualifying medical specialties. Long-term sustainability funding must come from viable and stable sources such as Medicare, Medicaid, and other public or private sources. HRSA has $11 million available for up to 15 awards, with awards of up to $750,000.
  • The Public Health Training Centers (PHTC) Program aims to increase the knowledge of the public health workforce through traineeships, specialized training, and professional development in partnership with state and local health departments, community-based primary care providers, and related organizations to address public health care needs. HRSA has $9 million available for up to 10 awards, with awards up to $910,000.
  • Grants to States to Support Oral Health Workforce Activities supports states in developing and implementing innovative programs to address the oral health workforce needs of Dental Health Professional Shortage Areas. HRSA has an estimated $14.8 million available for up to 37 awards, with awards of up to $400,000.
