Primary Care Week: October 10 – 14

National Primary Care Week is an annual event held to highlight the importance of primary care and bring healthcare professionals together to discuss and learn about generalist and interdisciplinary healthcare, particularly its impact on and importance to underserved populations.

Dr. Tara Mertz-Hack is a family medicine physician practicing in Oakes, North Dakota. She is also the current board president for the North Dakota Academy of Family Physicians. Hear Dr. Mertz-Hack describe how primary care is truly the heart of medicine, some common myths about primary care, and what you can be doing in medical school to set yourself up for a successful primary care career.

Come and "meet and greet" our healthcare facilities from all over North Dakota! Learn about various healthcare job opportunities in both rural and urban settings, and make connections with future potential employers! Lunch provided by the Center for Rural Health.

Community paramedic programs are integrated, multidisciplinary programs that take advantage of non-traditional opportunities to provide care to patients in an out-of-hospital setting. These programs help to reduce costs for the medical center and third-party payers, while improving patient satisfaction.

Hear first-hand experiences from 2nd year students about the summer programs and opportunities available to 1st year medical students, including rural experiences, research, medical trips abroad, and more. Lunch provided by North Dakota Rural Health Association.
