Step 1: Begin Your Workspace Application
The following instructions explain how to download an application from Grants.gov. Downloading a grant application package allows you to complete it offline and route it through your organization for review before submitting. It is recommended to use Adobe Acrobat Reader for Windows or MAC OS. Learn more about Adobe software compatibility to ensure that your version can be used to download, complete, and submit grant applications.
The standard way for organizations to apply for federal grants is by using Workspace, which allows a grant team to access and edit different forms within an application simultaneously. The forms can be filled out online or downloaded to be completed offline. Workspace also allows users to assign roles and privileges within the program to individuals working on the application. A "Core Role" or a "Custom Role with the Create Workspace" privilege is required to create a workspace.
Workspace has three approaches that an applicant can choose for their workflow: Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced.
Workspace Basic
Workspace Basic is best suited for organizations with one or two registered Grants.gov users. Any unregistered collaborators will need to be provided PDF versions of the application forms.
Workspace Intermediate
Workspace Intermediate is best suited for small teams of registered users who want to complete web forms and collaborate online.
Workspace Advanced
Workspace Advanced is best suited for larger teams of registered users, some of whom may be from external organizations – such as consultants, grant writers, and sub-applicants.
