Jun 2, 2026
In May, Rebecca Quinn, associate director at the Center for Rural Health (CRH), presented at the National Academies of Science, Medicine, and Engineering workshop, Mental Health After a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) – From Evidence to Integrated Care, in Washington, D.C.
Her presentation included information about brain injury in rural communities. Quinn is the director of the North Dakota Brain Injury Network (NDBIN), where she has developed and led the program for over 18 years. She has worked with state and national entities on brain injury, including serving on the North Dakota State Brain Injury Advisory Board. NDBIN is located at CRH, part of the University of North Dakota School of Medicine & Health Sciences.
This workshop, which included other experts, explored how TBI affects mental health, including depression, anxiety, and other conditions, and what we know about why these issues can develop after TBI. Discussions included how to improve screening, treatment, and access to care for post-TBI mental health and discussed practical solutions and research priorities to strengthen mental health support for people with TBI and their families.
