Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program
Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Faculty, Registered Nurses (RNs) and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses are eligible to apply for this federal program. Funding preference is based on the greatest financial need, the type of facility, and the mental health or primary are HPSA designation. Critical Shortage Facilities, where RNs and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses must work, must be designated as, located in or primarily serving a mental health or primary care Health Professional Shortage Area.
Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program is administered by the Bureau of Clinician Recruitment and Service in the Health Resources and Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and designed to assist in the recruitment and retention of professional registered nurses, including advanced practice registered nurses (i.e., nurse practitioners, certified registered nurse anesthetist, certified nurse midwives, clinical nurse specialists), dedicated to working in healthcare facilities with a critical shortage of nurses or working as nurse faculty at an eligible school of nursing, by decreasing the financial barriers associated with pursuing a nursing profession.
To be eligible for loan repayment, all applicants must:
- Must be a licensed registered nurse (nurse practitioner and other advanced practice nurses are encouraged to apply) or nurse faculty, have completed your training (diploma, associate, baccalaureate or graduate), and be employed full time (at least 32 hours per week) at an eligible critical shortage facility.
- Be a U.S. citizen(born or naturalized), or National and Lawful Permanent Resident and your education must be from an accredited school of nursing located in a U.S. State.
- Funding preference is based on your financial need and the facility where you work.

Be employed as a full-time nurse faculty member at a public or private nonprofit eligible school of nursing and have:
- Outstanding qualifying educational loans leading to a diploma or degree in nursing;
- Completed the nursing education program for which the loan balance applies; and
- A current, full, permanent, unencumbered, unrestricted license to practice as an RN in the State in which they intend to practice or be authorized to practice in that State pursuant to the Nurse Licensure.
